The Wisdom of Brother Lawrence

I read The Practice of the Presence of God and The Spiritual Maxims (affiliate link) the other night. It's the writings of Brother Lawrence, a 17th Century monk. Every single paragraph blew my mind. This guy is so awesome. Honestly, if I had to choose one book to spend the rest of my life with other than the Bible, this might be the one.

A few nuggets for your Friday:

"He [Brother Lawrence] had desired to be received into a monastery so he should sacrifice to God his life with all of its pleasures. But God had disappointed him, having been met with nothing but satisfaction in that state"

"We should establish ourselves in a sense of God's presence by continually conversing with him."

"As for the miseries and sins he [Brother Lawrence] heard of daily in the world, he was so far from wondering at them, that, on the contrary he was surprised that there were not more, considering the malice sinners were capable of. For his part, he prayed for them, but knowing that God could remedy the mischiefs they did whenever he pleased, he gave himself no further trouble."

Chew on 'em. There is plenty more the come.
